Harbr, a cloud-based data commerce company, powers high-margin data businesses by enabling customised productionising and sharing of data at scale to drive significant revenue. Acknowledging that data assets within organisations are often underutilised and can become redundant, Harbr provides a solution that allows companies to securely turn their data into data products, providing other businesses with access to these in a safe and controlled marketplace in the form of subscription services.
Harbr wanted to increase the deployment options of its Data Commerce platform to include a secure Saas Deployment. This led Harbr to move from a single to a dual-virtual private cloud (dual VPC) architecture enabling Harbr’s platform to securely interact with client data with a minimal amount of communication and data manipulation. Harbr also decided to adopt a multi-cloud approach to meet their clients’ varying platform dependencies.
Harbr has engaged Estafet experts across a number of areas. We initially assisted in the updating of Harbr’s platform provisioning by migrating CloudFormation scripts to Terraform, and subsequently in the transformation from a single to a dual VPC architecture on Azure and AWS. Estafet architects and engineers contributed to the design, build and enrichment of core services.
Harbr engaged Estafet to deliver the dual VPC Azure platform, drawing on our Azure expertise to create the platform architecture and bridges needed to work cross-cloud with the core Harbr solution residing in AWS. As is common given the speed-to-market challenges faced by startups, we encountered minimal documentation but we progressed at speed by analysing the existing and dynamic code-base to understand the platform and plan the delivery effectively. Estafet engineers built the AWS bridges to the dual VPC architecture.
Estafet engineers are now fully integrated into Harbr’s team, accelerating the delivery of its roadmap and vision. At the architectural level, we are actively contributing to the next evolution of Harbr’s target architecture, to future-proof, evolve the platform and further secure Harbr as the leading Data Commerce solution in the market.
Estafet successfully updated Harbr’s platform provisioning and orchestration scripts and delivered the Azure platform architecture and bridges. Delivered services included a high (90%+) unit test coverage. Estafet developers and DevOps engineers successfully familiarised themselves with Harbr’s platform and are now fully integrated and trusted members of Harbr’s delivery and infrastructure teams. We have maintained consistency of reporting and documentation, inclusive of code quality checks and promoting good engineering practices. With Harbr’s DevOps team, we have designed and implemented Harbr’s new CI/CD processes and pipelines and our senior architect is actively participating in thought leadership in the evolution of a functional blueprint for the architectural evolution and future-proofing of Harbr’s platform.
