Our client’s vision was to build a payment platform to ease the transactional relationship between SMBs and banks. By linking small businesses directly to the bank (using OpenBanking APIs), SMBs would enjoy new services from the banks, understand transactions and settlements, apply for finance, and be part of a digital loyalty program.

The One Step to Success
To better integrate with our client’s services, many banks have existing digital experiences, but still want to take the value from the benefits of the curated data, allowing their own developers to access and integrate with our client’s APIs. This allows enhanced integration and customisation of the customer experience and cuts the time-to-market of these enhanced services.
Estafet designed and built a Developer Portal as well as the Public APIs it contains and developed the process and tools for extending and managing their lifecycle, in addition to automating the process for creating each sandbox, deployment and developer onboarding. We applied our experience from other start-ups (such as Centrica Hive, where we built a Developer Portal for connected homes) as well as from our work at payment providers including WorldPay. We worked with our client’s architecture and platform teams to ensure our solution was sustainable and supportable in-house.

The impact of the work was that our client was able to focus on supporting existing customers and developing its core (internal) platform. We applied our experience and knowledge of an API-First approach to building best practices into the Public API platform, which will become a standard for all their future API development. We also enhanced the client’s core services and security around Core and Public APIs. By thinking about how they will integrate with their future enterprise customers, Estafet made it easier for those customers to adopt our client’s services and realise their value fast. We scoped delivery more accurately, delivered faster, more cheaply, and more flexibly, including adapting to a customer request for an earlier deadline after beginning delivery and integrated well with our client’s teams and ways of working.
